Our Curriculum Rationale
Making the Curriculum Accessible for Pupils with SEND
Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our teachers use a range of adaptive teaching strategies to ensure that all pupils can access learning and achieve success. This includes carefully scaffolded tasks, clear modelling and explanations, adapted resources, visual supports, pre-teaching and overlearning of key vocabulary, the use of assistive technology where appropriate, and opportunities for practical, hands-on learning. Teachers regularly check understanding, provide additional support and challenge, and make reasonable adjustments to meet individual needs identified in pupils' SEND Support Plans or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Learning activities are designed to reduce barriers to participation while maintaining high expectations for all pupils. Through effective collaboration with SEND staff, external professionals, and families, we ensure that pupils with SEND are fully included in lessons and can make progress through the curriculum alongside their peers.
